CSB Receives Silver TELLY Award for Animation of 2018 Explosion and Fire at the Husky Refinery in Superior, Wisconsin
Washington, D.C., June 1, 2020, – The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) received a Telly Award for its “Animation of April 26, 2018, Explosion and Fire at the Husky Energy Refinery in Superior, Wisconsin.” The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and honors excellence in
video and television across all screens.
The CSB’s animation is approximately five minutes in length and focuses on the events surrounding the 2018 incident, which includes emergency response activities resulting from the massive explosion and ensuing fire. Since its release in December of 2019 the animation has received over 240,000 views.
Chairman Katherine Lemos said, “It is the mission of the CSB to disseminate lessons learned from chemical accidents and to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The CSB’s YouTube Channel has over 100,000 subscribers and our safety videos have been viewed millions of times. We are fortunate to have such a loyal viewership dedicated and interested in the safety of the chemical industry.”

The CSB is an independent federal agency charged with investigating serious chemical accidents. The agency's board members are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate. CSB investigations look into all aspects of chemical accidents, including physical causes, such as equipment failure, as well as inadequacies in regulations, industry standards, and safety management systems.
